BADMINTON COURT LIGHTING SOLUTION

mnmm (3)

There are three types of badminton court lighting, natural lighting, artificial lighting and mixed lighting. Mixed lighting is used in most modern badminton courts, of which artificial lighting is common lighting.

In order to allow athletes to accurately determine the height and landing point of the ball when designing the badminton court, it is necessary to make full use of natural light to avoid glare reflection to the eyes; then increase the stability of brightness, uniformity and coordination of distribution. The most important thing is not only to make the athletes perform well, but also to make the judges make accurate judgments.

LIGHTING REQUIREMENTS

Lighting standards for badminton court are as below.

Notes:
1. There are 2 values in the table, the value before "/" is the PA-based area, the value after "/" indicates the total value of TA.
2. The surface color of background (wall or ceiling), reflection color and ball should have sufficient contrast.
3. The court should have sufficient illumination, but should avoid the glare to athletes.

INSTALLATION RECOMMENDATION

Use the lights on the ceiling (indoor stadium LED lighting) as general lighting, and then add auxiliary lights on the booth side at a higher position on the badminton court.

Glare can be avoided with a hood for LED lights. To avoid high brightness above the athletes, lights should not appear above the main venues.

The minimum free height for international competitions is 12m, so the installation height of the lights should be at least 12m. For informal arenas, the ceiling can be lower. When less than 6m, it is recommended to use low-power LED indoor sports stadium lights.

Typical mast layout for badminton courts is as below.
